Natural Resources

This past week we learned about Natural Resources.  We watched a video and then did my Natural Resource Match while discussing.  The next day I assigned them all to a group and a destination.  I told them they were going to be dropped off at this location and they were to determine the Natural Resources that were already there and then only take 5 things that they could bring with them.  THEY LOVED THIS!  Talk about the conversations that they ere having.  I loved it!

 

One group was in the DESERT and they wanted t take a sleeping bag, which was on the list.  Here is how the conversation went.

Girl 1:  We need to take a sleeping bag so we can have a place to sleep.

Girl 2:  Yes!

Boy: No, we can sleep on a sleep on the ground.

Girl 1: NO WAY!  I am not doing that!

 

 

 

 

Too cute!  You can get my Natural Resource pack here.  It has this group activity, a word sort, cut and paste, another definition sort, and definition poster.  It's a great pack to teach your students all about Natural Resources.

3D Shapes

We studied 2D and 3D shapes and it was a good time to bring out my unit to add to the daily lessons.  The kids loved the sorting, coloring, and identifying the shapes while learning :)  That's always a good thing right?  You can get this packet here.

I had to share this too.  My students were writing postcards to someone about a vacation they dream about going on.  I had a few students get out their planners that had the United States on it to look up how to spell the state they were visiting!  They were all worried about how to spell states and this was a perfect solution to help them.

Lately

Amongst all the first of the year testing (still doing some) and getting adjusted to a new school, I have been absent from blogging.  Here are a few things we have been doing lately in class.

 

 I got my students book boxes (ice cube boxes from Wal-Mart -- so much cheaper!) and added my calendar numbers to them.  You can get my calendar numbers here.

While introducing Daily 5, we made anchor charts with watch the teacher and student should be doing during each rotation.  I took pictures of my students doing it correctly and posted them next to the anchor charts.  They loved seeing themselves in pictures and it's easy to refer to if you seeing them trying to do it wrong!

 

 

When looking to see if they understand if they knew Fiction and Non-Fiction titles/books, I gave them a scholastic book order and they sorted the pictures.  They did some shopping too and enjoyed this assessment.

I got to hang up some awesome work created by my students and they loved seeing their work in the room.  On this assignment, they created their own problem story and showed me how they solved it.  Some were really creative!

Back to school

My first week back to school was busy!  I greeted 22 students who were eager to start back to school.  My Monday was crazy busy but ended with beautiful flowers delivered to my school from Jason and the boys!  This made all the craziness much better!

 

 

My Tuesday didn't start off so well ( I ran into traffic everywhere causing me to be super late to work and of course I left my phone at home that day).  My students finished their ABC wall (which I love by the way).  You can get the ABC label's here.

 

 

My Wednesday started with this sweet note from a sweet boy that is in my class.  :)

 

 

My students worked hard all week on their Back To School Fun Pack that you can find here.  The pack has a little of everything and a great review with some fun mixed in too!

 

 On Thursday I had to rush home to grab the littles to take Mr. C to get his six month check up.  Thankfully all is good according to the doctor!

My week was hectic and I felt like at times I was living in the moment.  I ended up with 23 amazing kids who are all going to make my first year at my new school memorable.  I ended Friday night with late night cuddles with this sweet one.  I just love little moments like this.

2014 - 2015 Fall Leaf Exchange

Please join me and my class in a "Fall Leaf Exchange".  I would like to get between 25 to 35 classes to join in with us and exchange fall leaves from around the United States.  Here is what you need to do to participate. 

1. Email me your Name, School, and Address

2. You and your class will pick one type of tree an send a leaf, little write up about the leaf, little write up about your class/school, and a picture if you would like.

 

I will be taking teacher/school info up until October 1, 2014.  I will send out all the contact information to everybody by Oct. 5th.  Please try to have your leaves and information mailed out to everybody by the end of the month. 

 

I have done this before and it is so much fun to get different leaves and information weekly.  The kids really enjoyed reading about the leaves, schools, and students that were sending them.  I hope you join us in this fun adventure and help the kids engage in learning too!

How cute are these?  I saw this idea in a different version on Pinterest (what we would we do without Pinterest.  Anyways, I came up with these cute tags to send home with a  few kids every week.  It allows others to ask them how well they did in a certain area in class.  It allows them to feel good about their accomplishments and let's them shine in and outside the classroom!  You can get them here.   

                                                                                

Back to School Student Fun Pack
